The PYP Sustainability Project for Grade 4 culminated in a vibrant Sustainability Bazaar, marking the completion of weeks of purposeful and inquiry-driven learning. Through hands-on experiences, learners deepened their understanding of sustainability education by applying the 5Rs—Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, and Recycle—to transform everyday materials into meaningful, usable products.
Students created products across five categories—home décor, utility, stationery, gardening, and packaging—making thoughtful choices about material use, functionality, and environmental impact. Central to this journey was design thinking in education, as learners identified real needs, brainstormed ideas, developed prototypes, tested samples, and refined their final outcomes.
This project-based learning experience also highlighted strong collaboration among our 9–10-year-olds. Working in teams, students demonstrated responsibility, leadership, and problem-solving skills while managing resources and supporting one another. The PYP Sustainability Project stood out as a meaningful example of learning in action, environmental responsibility, and creativity through upcycling projects for students, reinforcing the importance of sustainability education in the early years.
