As a part of the ongoing inquiry into ‘Communities’, with the central idea ‘Communities we belong to reflect who we are’, students of Grade 2 visited the Bangla Sahab Gurudwara to observe the Kar Seva by the Sikh community. This experiential learning provided an opportunity for our second graders to witness and experience acts of community service by the devotees of the Gurudwara.
They were very appreciative of the selfless service by the people of the community as they looked after the students’ shoes, offered them water, prepared meals, cleaned the premises and participated in the langar too. Kar Seva is all about helping each other and showing love and respect for their Gurudwara and everyone in the community. Our learners were mesmerized by the sheer size of the dishes in which the food was being cooked in and the cleanliness of this landmark place!
Students were caring and respectful in this place of worship and practised self-management skills while walking around the Gurudwara.
